Christmas Blessings
Posted by. St. Maria Goretti Church on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 7:33 PM

I remember my first assignment as a
priest in Houma with a Dutch pastor and his
sister that on December 6, St. Nicolas Day, they
gave me and the other priest gifts, the Dutch day
of giving gifts rather than Christmas Day. It was
a wonderful surprise for me.

Every Christmas is a wonderful
remembrance for all of us as we recall the great
gift from God - his Son, Jesus Christ. We give
each other gifts, sometimes surprising gifts, but
none that equals God’s gift of his Son.
That Son of God was sent to all of us on a
rescue mission, a mission with eternal
consequences.

How memorable, how wonderful is this
time, as we celebrate this Gift from God who
came to save all of us.

Our world needs the continuing help of
God to bring peace, forgiveness and
reconciliation to mankind.

Our songs sing of peace, our prayers
express these desires, but our world erupts into
violence, killings and evil in many different
directions.

All of us Catholics during this season
recall the great Gift from God and in our
reconciliation with God and each other, try to
mirror the goodness of God to bring his
goodness, his kindness, his mercy, his
generosity to others.

The Gift of God given to us we try to
share as a gift to one another as we imitate that
Gift from God – Jesus the savior, our rescuer.

We, the priests and staff of our parish
remember all of you in our prayers, and wish
all of you happy memories and a Merry
Christmas Season.
